Bhulbona ar shohojete
Shei praan e mon uthbe mete
Mrittu majhe dhaka ache
je ontohin praan

Bojre tomar baje bashi
She ki shohoj gaan
Shei shurete jagbo ami
(Repeat 2X)

Bojre tomar baje bashi
She ki shohoj gaan
dao more shei gaan

Shei jhor jeno shoi anonde
Chittobinar taare
Shotto-shundu dosh digonto
Nachao je jhonkare!

Bojre tomar baje bashi
She ki shohoj gaan
Shei shurete jagbo ami
(Repeat 3X)

Bojre tomar baje bashi
She ki shohoj gaan
Shei shurete jagbo ami

Bojre tomar baje bashi
She ki shohoj gaan
dao more shei gaan

Footnote:

The lyrics are based off a poem.
From Gitanjali by Rabindranath Tagore (sung by Palbasha Siddique).

“Stream of Life”

The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and day
runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures.

It is the same life that shoots in joy through the dust of the earth
in numberless blades of grass
and breaks into tumultuous waves of leaves and flowers.

It is the same life that is rocked in the ocean-cradle of birth
and of death, in ebb and in flow.

I feel my limbs are made glorious by the touch of this world of life.
And my pride is from the life-throb of ages dancing in my blood this moment.

how could i get an actual English translation to the lyrics? i have the poem but it is my understanding the song was adapted from the poem not a word for word verbatim singing of the poem.

    Any suggestions? :)

anybody know what language this is?

To Gary Tilghman, try a good library which has good literary collections. And the book ‘Geetanjali’ or ‘Song Offerings’ should be there. Rabindranath Tagore (actual name in Bangla is Rabindranath Thakoor) attracted quite a deal of attention in Europe in and around 1913 when he was awarded the Noble Prize. You will probably get the exact English translation of the poem by the poet himself. Thank you.

amazing voice, breathtaking lyrics….really really soulful. The first time I heard, I knew it was bengali but I understood the the inherent mysticism only when I came to know it is by Tagore - the genius. Wish you all the very best Palbasha…I wish I could sing like you

  25. John B says, August 18th, 2008 at 9:51 pm

    Absolutely exquisite.
Excellent work by the composer, the gorgeous voice of Palbasha and of course the original poet Tagore.

I hope Palbasha goes on to sing a lot more stuff as good as this, and although I understand not one word of Bengali, I would be very interested in buying her CDs.
